Welcome to the Blue Ridge Young Birders Club! Hello parents, teachers and community members. We welcome you to our website and wish to share with you the many birding resources available to you to support the young birders and students in your life. As you explore our website you will discover meeting and field trip dates, citizen science projects, and teaching resources. We hope that you consider joining us as we explore the wonderful world of birds!
We are a group of young birders from both the Piedmont and Shenandoah Valley area of Virginia who share a passion for birds, photography, conservation and everything and anything else to do with wild birds and nature! The logo of the Great Horned Owl was drawn by fellow young birder Max Nootbaar, and the bird photos on this page were all taken by our young birders as well!
We take regular field trips to local and distant places. We also participate in conservation and citizen science projects such as Project Feeder Watch, The Great Backyard Bird Count, Christmas Bird Count, Nightjar Survey, and the Rockingham County Raptor and Waterfowl Survey. We maintain and monitor Bluebird Trails at Piedmont Community College in Charlottesville, and in the Shenandoah Valley.
If you are interested in sharing your passion for birds, learning more about our feathered friends then we invite you to join us at one of meetings or field trips. We welcome young birders age 7 and older who demonstrate an ability to walk quietly and respectfully on the trail without running or disturbing the birding experience of the other members. Visit our Field Trips page to learn more about our upcoming adventures!
