We all love birds and the many varied species that live and migrate through our area, but have you stopped to think what it would be like if these species slowly disappeared from our planet.  Each year millions of birds die, and some species go extinct due to a myriad of environmental influences.  The videos included here highlight some of the key issues that impact bird conservation.  Listen to Kimberly Kaufmann, executive director of the Black Swamp Bird Observatory in Ohio and  world renowned birder Kenn Kaufmann,  and  see what you can do to help ensure that the birds you enjoy today will be here for you to enjoy with your own children someday.

If you KNIT, you can help wild birds and rehabilitators by knitting nests for orphaned birds. Knitted nests emulate the feel of real nests, keeping the babies warm and comfortable. Wildcare in San Rafael, California has a video and pattern instructions. And -- if you check out the WildCareFacebook page, you can see photos of donated nests others have submitted. (The photo here is of a baby White-tailed Kite) --http://www.wildcarebayarea.org/site/PageServer?pagename=babybirdnest_homepage
